Lactnet is run by volunteers.  Volunteers, get it?  No one gets paid for
doing the work of administering Lactnet.  There is no advertising on Lactnet
and in case you hadn't noticed before, it costs nothing to subscribe.
Nothing is being sold.  It is a uniquely open forum for the purpose of
promoting communication in a fledgling profession, and aiding mothers and
children.  Where, then, is the financial conflict of interest?

For purposes of administration, someone has to have their names listed as
the owners.  This has to do with accountability too.  Nobody has any trouble
reaching us.  If you have ever been spammed and tried to reply, you will
know how annoying it is when your e-mail is returned because the recipient
already has ceased to exist-- just after having spammed you and thousands of
others.  Lactnet is accountable to the readers, and to the users of the
archives.

I make my money at my day job.  I choose to spend some time reading and
working for Lactnet in my free time.  That's how volunteerism works.  I have
not seen anything in Kathleen Bruce's posts, and certainly nothing in the
Lactnet information, which bears the stamp of *any* pump company.  Kathleen
does not use Lactnet to advertise her non-Lactnet work any more than the
rest of us do, and a darn sight less than some.
