There is also a Swedish study that shows that a combination of suctioning
and the use of demerol have added effects, but I can't find it.
There is evidence and I've seen it myself that routine suctioning sometimes
causes a baby to go apneic. Neonatologists here in Toronto went around
talking about not doing routine suctioning.
Any *routine* intervention, of course, needs to be justified by the
literature, not the other way around.
