Non-scientists confuse 'prevent' and 'protect'.
Meta-analysis shows clearly that breastfeeding "protects" against 
asthma, or, stated in terms of the biological norm, that artificially 
fed kids have higher rates of asthma.

This does not mean that no breastfed child gets asthma. This is probably 
what she meant.

One or more of our physician members with knowledge on the subject could 
write in and share this distinction. Physician letters tend to get 
printed in the Times.
