I have a mom-to-be, 24 weeks pregnant, with a problem that I've never before encountered.

A few years ago, her right nipple had a discharge and throbbed. She saw a doctor about it and he diagnosed "some kind of cyst" (mom's words). The discharge and throbbing subsided.

Now with her pregnancy the right nipple is acting up again. She says that this nipple is larger than the left; rather than throbbing now it "burns". Applications of heat and cold are not helping - instead "I pinch it as hard as I can to calm it down, which takes about a half hour." The bouts seem to be increasing in frequency as pregnancy progresses, now once a week instead of every few weeks. She has not noted any changes in color. (I thought about Raynaud's of some sort.) She also denies any pinching of clothing or lying funny on that side etc.

My best guess is this is hormonally related at this point - I haven't palpated the breast over the phone [now wouldn't THAT be a feat!! ;-) ] so don't know about the cyst theory. She's going to our "breast guy" next week.

Anybody seen anything like this before??

Thanks for your wisdom!
