Hi All,
There is something behind this mother's message, but what it is, isn't
really clear. More problems than just a feeding situation. In answer to
a question, we had a mom of twins who pumped for 7 months, just couldn't
get through management problems of the actual breastfeeding of twins.
But both babies had only breastmilk for 6 months and some solids &
breastmilk for another month. So it can be done. Did she breastfeed the
other babies, or is there a particular reason that she doesn't want to
nurse the twins?
The eczema could indeed be from either her dairy ingestion or the
original exposure to formula (when was the first bottle given?) Dr.
Rapp's book is very good for those dealing with allergies. I always
hesitate to question breastfeeding when formula has/is being used. Moms
(and some HCPs) just don't realize that one bottle can be all it takes
to set things off.
The first six weeks are a rough time for all moms, not to even think
of a mom with three and newborn twins, she is to be commended for being
willing to go this far, and for calling you. Sometimes moms, just need
to know that others understand, while we love our children, it can be a
stressful situation and not always perfect. She has done more than a lot
of other moms, perhaps she just needs to hear someone say that.
