Bravo, Diane!  It sounds like you effectively countered a lot of the nonsense going around about 
this gift bag ban.  

What you write about the adoptive mother who didn't know that she could breastfeed means to me 
that we still have to work to get the word out about adoptive nursing, supplemental nursing 
systems, and donor milk (just to name a few) to the general public.  

I am always alarmed by how widespread the assumption is that a woman can't breastfeed unless 
she is in perfect health, not going back to work and the baby's biological mother. Wouldn't it be 
great if everyone knew that, with very few exceptions, virtually every baby can either breastfeed or 
receive human milk.  

Communicating this to everyone (not just expectant or new mothers) would go a long way toward 
dispelling the notion that formula is the obvious alternative to any sub-optimal breastfeeding 
situation and that, therefore, it is somehow cruel to in any way limit access to it.
