As a Lactation Educator who is not an RN, I would like to offer that although
I feel very passionate about what I do, and I believe I am intuitive enough
to do it well, I really feel like I need more clinical experience. I do not
necesssarily think it should be a requirement to be an RN, but I would be the
first to enroll in a Lactation Consultant program that included class time
and more importantly CLINICALS. Right now I am actively looking for a way to
volunteer at a local LC office in order to feel like I can responsibly sit
for the exam next summer. I want this kind of exposure so that I can do my
job well. I guess what may be needed is a graduate program in Lactation. Let
me know where and when to sign up!! Or if anyone needs an over zealous
volunteer in the Seattle area, please feel free to call! :)
