I need some specific information about Lactation Consultants in the US - at individual sites as well as the US as a whole
1. At your hospital: Are all the individuals that function in the role required to be IBCLC? If you have nurses that do only lacation - are they are trained and have passed the L/C examine?
2. Is it written into the formal job description - must be IBCLC? Do they have time to "practice" function before they sit for the examine or do you have a larger enough pool that they come in IBCLC?
3. The ACA requires trained lacation support - does this mean IBCLC or is this the interpretation for ILCA? - Is board certified an issue of minimal standards for a L/C or just nice to have?
4. Does IBCLC effect reimbursment? - Those that have OP clinics are you reimbursed as a preferred provided or as a facility?
5. Who pays for the formal training? Does the institution provide money to train L/C?
6. Who pays for the Lactation Consultant Examine? If it is required for each does the institution pay once they have passed the examine? Or is there one program manager and that is the only person the insitution pays for the examine?

Thank you for any and all help
