Caught the Oprah show mentioned yesterday. The good part was
that everyone seemed to have bf for at least some period of
time, and did so in spite of problems and embarrasing moments.
One mom encouraged others to hang in there for at least three
weeks to give a chance for problems to work themselves out. On
the other hand, there was no mention at any time of the
availablilty of help from LCs or LLL or anyone else for those
who were having problems. Would have been so nice... And there
was, of course, some misinformation. But much worse that the bf
discussion was the talk about childbirth. I just wanted to
scream!!! The only view presented, by all involved, was that
anyone who gave birth without an epidural was a complete idiot.
Lamaze classes were given very short shrift. One mom even
admitted her baby was zonked for days on the demerol that she
had been given during cb, and this brought knowing smiles and
laughter! I could go on, but won't. In all fairness, there was
some good stuff in the show, but the cb discussion was unreal,
although only too representative of what we are all seeing these
days.
Still shaking,
