Pat and Pam, my take on this would be that if mother and baby were kept
together, preferably skin-to-skin, then the mother is less likely to miss
baby's feeding cues, therefore baby will feed more often, taking in small
amounts frequently. The babies I see in hospital are hugely stressed and I'm
sure this has a role in "colic". They are separated, bathed, heel-sticked,
examined, left to cry etc. Had one baby this week who would only feed naked
and only if allowed to help himself - clever boy!
