In response to the item re: ranger rick article on mammals:  when my oldest
daughter was in second grade and I was nursing her sister, the class had a
similar discussion.  When the teacher asked the class to name some other
mammals, Jeni replied, "My mother is a mammal, she makes milk and nurses my
baby sister."  When my youngest was a freshman and was in the mandatory
health class, she came home and told me that she couldn't believe that bfing
was not addressed.  So I sent some information to school with her and she
gave a brief presentation to the class.  All my kids have used (ala Linda
Smith's kids) breastfeeding in some way as a topic for a research paper or
presentation.  In my nursing school classes, I used every opportunity to
share good bfing information:  in nutrition class, psych, biology...in fact
my biology teacher gave me a beautiful 8x10 of her nursing her first child.
 My kids have adapted many of my papers for their use.

On a more practical note:  I believe there is a K-12 curriculum available
from the state of NY which may make it helpful to those who want to add bfing
to the appropriate place in the science/health curriculum.
