Tastings?!? What are they doing with these toddler formulas to make
them actually palatable -- how much sweeteners, flavorings, etc?

Most people react with disgust to the smell and taste of infant
formulas, such that mixing up a batch for people to taste has long
been a way of promoting breastfeeding!

I received an advertisement by mail recently for Enfamil Next Step
with Lipil, a formula milk for toddlers. It was sent by Safeway
(large US grocery chain) and said "special offer for Safeway Club
Card members". It says, "Take your toddler's nutrition a step beyond
milk" with an illustration of a toddler holding a gallon jug of milk
that has a large "?" on it. Inside, there is a chart comparing cow's
milk with Next Step Lipil (but not breastmilk, hmmm). Of course the
formula has much more iron, vit C, and vit E. Set off in a different
color box on the chart it shows that the formula also has DHA and ARA
vs. cow's milk which has none (again, no breastmilk, wonder why they
left it out? <tongue in cheek>).

I find it very interesting that this mailer discusses how important
these vitamins and EFAs are to developing brains of 12-24 month olds.
Yes, they are, which is why toddlers should still be breastfeeding!
