Sorry, EBM was not the best choice.  Continuing breastfeeding would have
been.  Food poisoning bugs or toxins do not get into the milk, because they
do not get into the blood.  (Rarely salmonella, non typhi, can, but it's
still rare).  The mother should have been advised to continue breastfeeding
so that the baby could benefit from the antibodies the mother was producing,
so that the baby could get the sensitized lymphocytes, so that the baby
could continue a comforting relationship with the mother.

When in doubt, continue breastfeeding.
