Dear Laurie, You were correct, breast feeding is the recommended treatment
for any type of diarrhoea. At the Port of Spain General Hospital where I
worked for 14 years in charge of the Diarrhoea Control Program, we would
beg mothers to continue breastfeeding or bring in their sisters or friends
to express milk for their babies with diarrhoea. All these babies got
better and we did away with lactose free milks. Lactose intolerance in
most babies with diarrhoea is not a major problem and the other
immunological advantages that human milk has in it far outweigh any
possible theoretical disadvantages. David MD from Trinidad, West Indies
