Laurie and KB, I agree with your suggestions about checking baby for latch
and suck. Unfortunately, Mom went to visit her parents in Jerusalem for a
few days, so will have to wait. Meanwhile, I am not altogether sure that
this is the problem, since in the first 2 weeks of life, when you would
normally expect to have problems with latch, the baby gained very well
indeed. Suck is another matter, of course, altho the mom claims that suck
is good.....

I would like to ask "The Group" if anyone has had experience with the
following as oxytocin stimulants: celery, cinnamon and fennel. Ody says
that these should be avoided in high doses or completely in pregnancy as
they are "uterine stimulants". Since this woman says she has yet another
case of mastitis (3rd case in 5+ weeks!), has "streaky", "thready" milk
(fats? curds?), lumps that come and go, I started thinking in terms of
getting that milk flowing. The elevated temps with the mastitis are
perhaps affecting her supply, so suggested domperidone.

Has anyone had experience with this thready milk? I tend to think that
this is what's jamming up her ducts. How can this mom be helped? I seem to
recall reading something a long time ago from Australia along these lines,
from Robin?

Help, please. And thanks for your thoughts. Judy Knopf
