Poop, especiallly in the first week is the best indicator of intake.  I use 
the pee   rule of thumb, one per day of age (1 pee, day 1; 2 pees day 2etc.) 
get concerned if poop is scant, indicates low transfer(or production). 
Remember poop is how baby also gets rid of bilirubin.  Pat in SNJ
