A recently talked with a mom of a very small( under 3 lbs) NICU baby ( 2
months old) that was pumping 3 times a day and getting 2 liters. She had been
pumping 4 times a day but was getting almost 3 liters per day and so she
decreased her pumping by one.
Her baby was/ is only taking 15-20 cc per feed and was asked to not bring
anymore milk into the NICU.
I agree about the importance of frequent pumping but this mother felt that
until she saw a decrease in her supply she would limit her pumping and sleep
through the night.
