Hi Janet:
First, let me say how proud I am of your comments the last several
weeks -- your words spoke for many more of us . It's really frightening the
personal attacks that can take place on Lactnet -- . I really admire your
courage,

Secondly, Diflucan;
I've only had to use it once -- gave 200 mg day 1 then 100 mg daily
for 9 days. Treated baby (actually toddler!), with Diflucan oral syrup as
well.
The baby had been using Nilstat suspension forever, mother had been
using Mycostatin ointment on nipples with no relief, still had deep burning
pain.
Unfortunately, 3/4 way into treatment Mom had to take antibiotics
for mastitis, lost most of the headway she'd gained with yeast, but still
better off than she was before. She figured out too that baby had been
using frozen pumped milk that probably was yeast loaded as well, even if
mom's breast was no longer infected, baby didn't have much chance of getting
better.
Diflucan seems to have much fewer liver problems than does Nizoral
-- I think cuz Nizoral came first that most docs figure they have the same
problems associated with them (Interestingly enough, last night I was at a
symposium about HIV/AIDS -- they did a comparison of Nizoral vs. Diflucan
for AIDS candida, noted that Diflucan is free of most of the liver toxicity
Nizoral is famous for).
Even with the potential liver toxicity, Jack Newman from Toronto
uses Nizoral if he has to because the Ontario government drug plan doesn't
cover Diflucan and its very expensive. He feels even with the greater risk,
Nizoral is better than no Rx.
Sorry I've gone on so long, hope you get mail from folks who've used
Diflucan more than I. Good luck!
                        Barbara
