Hi All,
Have a mom with chronic resistant yeast who is trying valiantly to get her NP
to prescribe Diflucan. The NP did prescribe a total of 2 Diflucan (100mg)
and to take one a day for two days. Mom noticed immediate relief, but since
she only had the 2 pills the yeastie beasties came right back. Nips are
cracked and bleeding, crusty, the works, and she is getting ductal pain as
well.
The NP has now prescribed Lotrizome cream with a steroid in it and think that
it will get rid of the yeast (is she right?). I told her that if the yeast
is in the ducts, it prob'ly would not help. (was I right?) I asked her if
she hed thought about Nystatin ointment. Mom was given Nystatin suspension
for baby and was told to use that on her nipples. I explianed that the Nyst
oint was better for mom, less messy etc. Seems, however there are Ins
restraints invovled and Nyst may not be covered, I asked her to find out if
it was.
I told the NP that many Drs around the US were using Diflucan at 100mg p/day
for about 7-10 days for resistant yeast with very good effects, however, she
is concerned with liver toxicity in mom and baby with dosages of this level.
I told her that the research was probably a couple of years old, (she
agreed) and that as far as I knew, no problems had been reported in this type
of use for moms with yeast.

So here is the help I need, I need any and ALL Drs who use Diflucan to PLEASE
send to me ASAP how you use Diflucan, what you have found to be effective
(Dosages and length of use), and whether or not liver toxicity is a real
issue in this instance. I need to fax this info to her ASAP and hope that
the NP will go ahead and prescribe the Diflucan to this mom who really needs
it.

TIA, from the bottom of my heart!!!

Jay

PS Tome Hale, do you have any updated info? I know silly question...how do
I order your new book? I deleted the post on accident. :/
