One of the Public Health Nurses in our area is very upset with the local midwives who are prescribing progestin-only contraceptives even when breastfeeding mothers are giving 1 - 2 bottles of formula / day (they are unable to pump adequately at work).

What would be your recommendation/thought - when is this not appropriate.

My thought was that some women are unable to tolerate Estrogens and therefore use the mini-pill exclusively even when NOT breastfeeding...but what has been your experience/studies?
