Libraries are in the business of providing information to the public --
be it via print or other media.

The librarian is holding herself up as the arbiter of the area's social
standards.  Does she also slice pages out of books because (in HER
opinion) they contain language that might offend?

Censorship is not a good thing, regardless of the motivation of the
censors.
