Edie,

Case #1: This mom had no breast changes with this and previous baby and bf
w/ supps her first lactation. I would recommend: thorough history and
physical including physical of baby when baby comes maybe tongue-tie is in
family?, correction of any endocrine problems if possible, see an herbalist
because some have recommended certain herbs that can help breast
development; early, optimal bf and maybe post feed pumping to maximize
breast "emptiness," support group. Of course, follow closely in case of low
milk.

Case #2: baby stopped breathing and mom lost her supply and mer. Maybe the
mom needs some psych counseling before the baby comes. it sounds like an
inhibited mer from psychological trauma. Perhaps she can be debriefed by a
knowledgeable bf friendly doc who can explain (at least this is how I see
it) that baby is at breast quite often so maybe just coincidental that he
stopped breathing while there, OR if it was reflux or feeding related apnea,
then baby would do same on bottle feeds. So not to blame bf. My
understanding is baby survived. Has he been medically worked up to see what
if anything was the matter? She can be reassured based on this or have new
baby checked for same. What would make her feel better? Should she learn
infant CPR? Not sure here, but sounds psychological to me so I would think
that is where therapy needs to point.
