We *do* know that ketotic breath can be a symptom  - in the UK we are
told it 'smells like pear drops' which is a sort of sugary sweetie
thing kids buy (which probably has no relationship at all to pears,
BTW; ) )

This baby was 4 days old, and had been checked out by the paed and
the ob had checked out the mother...who had had gestational diabetes,
so her baby would be checked out even more carefully.

It was fair of me to make the most likely suggestion of 'normal'.
