Does anyone have a protocol for amounts of artificial milk that should be
fed an infant in the first 3 days ( I know, none, but if they have to get
some?). Our docs decided to let artificially fed babies, or those who get a
bottle in the first few days, feed as breastfed babies do, ad libitum.
Because those little bottles that we have in the hospital flow so quickly,
some babies are getting up to 100 cc a feed. Needless to say, they spit most
of it up!! There have to be some guidelines other than the 150cc per kilo
per day, which is really too much on day one. and day 2. IN the old days,
they use to say 10cc on day 1, 20 cc on day 2, 30 cc on day 3, until you get
to 150cc/k/d. That was also probably too much.
