I am sorry to hear my suspicions confirmed by Pat! I think formula as a
quick fix to bring numbers down has been on the rise; readmission to
phototherapy is likely not to be encouraged. Does anyone know if the Wallaby
system for phototherapy at home is still around? It is a blanket, used so
that the eyes don't have to be shaded as with conventional lights.
The article on Medscape should be titled: poor feeding as symptom of illness
ignored again.
My daughter was overtreated with phototherapy (and formula) 20 years ago
(she was born in a birth center and admitted to hospital). The pendulum
will swing back again, with formula the preferred option.
At least you don't hear talk of "flushing" the jaundice so much anymore.
