Hi!
To reintroduce myself, I'm the Lactation Consultant with ParentsPlace.com and
I've been asked an interesting question that I'd like to share with you. "A
Midwifery student has started to produce milk since beginning the course.
This student has never been pregnant. She wonders whether being in proximity
with mothers and
mothers-to-be has triggered this change? Is there any published evidence of
such a link? Would it be advisable for her to have a prolactin assay in case
there might be a pituitary tumour or other dysfunction?" Normally, I'd
recommend evaluating/treating this as you would any spontaneous nipple
discharge in a non-lactating woman, but I've been asked this same type of
question about 10 times over the past year. Any ideas?
