Seems to me newborns mostly lay down while nursing - generally with one ear
lower than the baby's mouth if the baby is tummy to tummy with mom in a
cradle hold.  Babies who bottle feed get milk dripping in their mouths
whether they are applying suction or not.  The milk pools in their mouth.
BF babies must be working at the breast to get breastmilk.  It doesn't
drip/pool like milk from a bottle does.  Breastmilk has antiviral and
antibacterial properties.  I'd think the ear infection issue is more about
formula's being a dead fluid rather than the wonderful live mother's milk
full of antibodies.

Please correct me if I am wrong.
