Mary:  I wholeheartedly agree with Dr. Hale and would just like to add
that I often see newer drugs used for no particularly good reason (in my
most cynical periods, I figure the doctor just had a visit from the
Prilosec rep).  Unless this is an unusual ulcer or has not responded to
conventional treatment, use of H-2 blockers would be preferable.  I
actually remember a time not that long ago, when ulcers were treated with
antacids like maalox or mylanta, and if I recall correctly the efficacy
of treatment was equal with H-2 blockers, but the antacid regimen was
inconvenient (chugging liquid antacids four times a day as compared with
