Dose of lecithin is 1200mg four times a day for a few days, then wean down
or off.
The theoretical mechanism is that lecithin is a lipid emulsifier, i.e.
makes big fat droplets into little ones, which would be less likely to
solidify in a duct. "Kind of the same way some blood thinners work to
prevent strokes by preventing clots." is how I explain it to patients.
Have had several moms with recurrent plugged ducts and/or mastitis that
this has worked for. Again, anecdotal, but don't have a reference.
