I just saw a woman who agreed that I could post this message. 4 month old
baby gaining well, exclusively breastfed. Mother has a very abundant milk
supply and baby clicks to try to control milk flow. Her problems started
about a month ago with raised red, very painful Montgomery tubercles.
They are extremely oainful when any pressure is applies such as when the
baby nurses. She was treated with several types of antifungals with no
improvement, and never saw any signs of thrush in the baby except for a
mild diaper rash after two days of antifungal treatment. She has never
had sore nipples which might be due to yeast. Baby spits up after most
feeds, and this morning, after a very painful nursing session last night,
the spit -up was slightly brownish, almost looked as if it were tinged with
old blood. Does anyone have any ideas about this? The pain is enough
to make her consifder quitting and she breastfed her first child for well
over a year. Thanks, Eileen Shea, BSc., IBCLC
