Hi Eileen,
It's very important, and often difficult, to differentiate between
oversupply and a baby's inability to handle a normal flow of milk.
Babies who click during feeding are often tongue tied. Tongue tie
reduces the ability of the tongue to form a central (longitudinal)
groove, which decreases the infant's ability to form a bolus of milk and
hold it for a controlled swallow. This decreases the baby's ability to
coordinate swallowing and breathing correctly, sometimes leading to
swallowing lots of air, or swallowing more milk than the baby really
wants.

The inability of the tongue to elevate to press milk out of the breast
causes the baby to use jaw compression instead. This compression is
often very painful to the mother.

It would probably be helpful to consult a dermatologist about the
inflamed montgomery glands, once you are sure they are not just being
injured by excessive compression from the baby's jaws. What have you
tried to help the baby with flow, or to ramp doX-MX-Mozilla-Status: 0009hat's the only issue?
