I don't know about specific references which support (or refute) a
decrease in child abuse with breastfeeding, but I remember that in the
first article on Kangaroo Care published by Gene Cranston Anderson on
what had been seen in Bogata, when women were encouraged to breastfeed
their tiny infants (which previously had been isolated from their moms),
abandonment rates of infants plummeted.
