Dayna:  How the heck did you get that post so fast?  Anyway, yes it does do
the same thing.  The advantage of baking soda is that it doesn't cause
diarrhea if you don't get it all off.  Potentially, both could cause
diarrhea if baby ingested too much.  The idea is that you want to change
the concentration gradient across the skin.  If it's ingested it changes
the concentration gradient in the intestines, causing fluid to rush into
the intestines and resulting in diarrhea.  The reason I use a basin is that
you need a whole heck of a lot of either to raise and entire bath tub's
concentration gradient high enough (like two whole large boxes).
