My sweet husband (always on the lookout for me) found a "Low Bone Mineral
Density [LBMD] Risk Assessment Profile" at our local health department today.
It lists 28 questions to "assess" risk for LBMD. Among the questions is
"Did you breastfeed any of your children?" At the bottom of the
questionnaire respondents are told if they answered "yes" to 3 or more of the
questions they could be at risk for LBMD and should have an Osteoporosis DEXA
(dual-energy x-ray absoptiometry) BMD Test. WHAT? I thought that although
bone density is affected during lactation, after weaning this density is
actually stronger DECREASING risk of osteoporosis. Am I wrong?

I would like to formulate an educational response to the "International
Osteoporosis Assessment Project" but unfortunately all my resources are still
packed away. Do any of you have the appropriate references?

Thanks,

PS Has anyone ever heard of the Accessibility Compliance Team/USA?
Apparently they are the brains behind this operation.
