Rachelle: that is known as a slotted or grooved spoon. It has a little slot in
the middle of it and that slips into the mouth under the tongue and the
lingual frenum fits into the slot. In this way, the rpactitioner can hold up
the tongue. Soem people ahve said it is awkward to use and so don't bother,
others like it. It is not essential for treatment, rather just a preference of
the particular practitioner.
