Hi Laurie,
An ultrasound will be able to identify gall stones and your mom does not need
an x-ray.  She therefore does not need to pump and dump at all.  Even if she
has stones and the decision is to do surgery, again she can pump before the
surgery ( save that milk! ) and after she recovers in the recovery room can
then nurse her baby.
I worked with a mom who had stones from 6 weeks to 9 weeks postpartum, with
surgery so please e-mail me personally if you want.
