For Real???
I'm coming in on the middle of this discussion so some of my comments may
not be applicable BUT...

1. Many women breastfeed fine without reading ANY book at all...look
historically!
I think we make it too hard and too technical and lose a bunch of moms to
this that
just get caught up in all the things they "should" do to breastfeed. Those
things often
become barriers that take a simple act and make it to difficult to enjoy.

2. I worry when I have to give a three page handout that it's too much for
that mom
to digest. Tina Smillie just gave presentation yesterday that once again
affirms that
it's best to demo to a new mom and not expect her to read/remember (right
brain / left brain..yada yada).

3. That said there are certain instances that certainly require assistance
and sometimes very experienced specialists to help that mom through. In
those cases
a book will be of little/no help (except to those without access to a
qualified helper/professional). Face to face demo, pat on the back, hug,
empathy can't be found
in a book.

4. The professional books are fabulous but the average mom doesn't need all
that info.
I have books sitting on my desk that range from 1200 pgs to 65 pgs. I NEED
the professional references but other than Amy Spanglers Keep It Simple and
Womanly Art, it's rare that I suggest a more complex book to a new mom..and
those two books fill that need nicely.

Warmly,
