Pam, I saw it and agree with your assessment. My dh was so upset the
"lactation counselor" didn't do a better job on the witness stand, he told
the screen everything she should have said. I had to remind him she was an
actress reading a (poorly written, formula co. influenced) script. I have to
occasionally remind him that neither the Cleveland Browns nor Florida Gators
can hear his instructions, either ;-)

Both the prosecutor and the defense attorney argued that all this mom had to
do was give the baby formula and it wouldn't have died. There was *no*
helpful information about assessing intake and the "lactation counselor" said
that supplementation wasn't (ever) warranted, all the mother had to do was
try harder and stick with it.

The worst of it is that this will have a chilling effect on real, live flesh
and blood women who are trying to breastfeed, especially poor young mothers
who already have so hard a time. I'm so disgusted by the promos for this
show "The most controversial episode, we promise" that I don't even want to
write the producers to complain - they seem to have been expecting and
looking for the Chicago Hope-style publicity. I do wish we'd seen it coming
and been able to put together a local news segment like we did after Chicago
Hope :-(
