I did not know the new requirements, however we have discussed before that
these were being assessed and developed for the future. Lots of ibclcs are
also nurses (not necessary for ibclc - we've discussed the ins and outs of
this before) and would meet these requirements via their nursing education.
I would think that breastfeeding counselors such as LLL leaders would have
this education as well, and also nutrition folks, social workers, many folks
in the "helping" professions. I think the 45 hrs lactation in last 3 yrs is
an increase from 30 hrs. And I think all of this is a good thing. I have 20
yrs experience as an RN, I have a graduate degree, and ibclc x 7 yrs BUT I
STILL HAVE ALOT TO LEARN (see my previous post) :).
