My four children all weaned differently, but the 2 that weaned before 2 1/2
years old were both related to pregnancy. My 1st child refused to go to
breast after 24 months of age and I was 4 months pregnant. (I bled during
those 4 months right at the time my period would have been.). I wasn't
terribly upset as I thought 2 years at the time (1972) was a goodly length of
time. My 3rd child weaned at 20 months when I was 8 months pregnant. She
came off the breast and just said "no mo!". ( I bled during the first 5
months with that pregnancy. I was disappointed with the weaning of the 3rd
child, since she didn't make 2 years (I guess that was a time I'd set for
myself - you know "at least 2 years") and hoped that she would pick it up
again after her brother was born. But she didn't. When I would offer she just
would giggle and point to the baby. My first and third children are nothing
alike, so I don't think it was a personality thing. I just think they each
thought colostrum wasn't for them. Just FYI my 2nd child nursed for 30 months
and my 4th for 40 months.
