Hello Jessica.
A friend of mine in her late 40' had mastitis last year. She has been 
breastfeeding her single daughter for a couple of years some 4-5 years 
before. Interestingly she suffers of fibrocystic breast disease. It would 
seems that an already affected organ would be more sensitive to whatever 
infectious insult it would come across.
