Hello. This is my very first time on LACTNET. I've been reading the digest
for a couple of days and find it quite interesting. I am the only LC in
private practice in my area (large metropolitan area) and have been "winging
it". Have been helping BRF moms for 10 years, 6+ as LLLL. Now am Leader
reserve, R.N., I.B.C.L.C.. I am very interested in hearing from other LC's in
private practice. Have a zillion questions. How many consults do you average
per week. Feast or famine! Are you getting paid? How much do you charge and
do you have differt charges for different levels of service? How much? Do you
also rent pumps? Sell other BRF related supplies. I do all of the above.
Started rental station 6-7 years ago with two pumps. Now have 80+ pumps. Have
been working with national health insurer, doing consults and renting pumps
to their pts. They have been very willing to pay for services, but haggle on
some amts. charged. Have to give them a discount (due to the volume they send
me A REQUIREMENT TO WORK WITH THEM). Would love to be able to make a living
doing this. Recently quit my part time job as an ER nurse. Last year is the
first time I consistently paid myself a salary. This year I gave myself a
significant raise
