This is such a sad story (baby killed in accident because of not being in
car seat). I have, on many more than one occasion, sat next to the baby in
the car seat, with my seat belt on, and nursed the baby, still strapped
into her/his car seat. This is another alternative. I have also seen
people driving down the road while the DRIVER was nursing a baby on her
lap, and another time where the driver was bottle-feeding a baby on her
lap, and yet another time where the driver had the baby up on her shoulder
patting its back! Here in Texas it is common to see cars *full* of
preschoolers, standing up on seats, sitting on people's laps, or even just
5 or 6 heads in a backseat that you know has only 3 seatbelts at a maximum.
All of these things are against the law, but no one enforces the law. :(
