My FP hubby likes the recommendation of our local allergist re: nasal
congestion in elderly, those who don't tolerate anti-his, decongestants,
etc, and applies it to pregnant and nursing moms. Use 20 drops of
Tobasco sauce in an 8-10 oz glass of water two or three times per day.
It really clears the nasal passages, helps to prevent sinus infections
in those with allergies as it causes a flooding of the mucous membranes,
and has not medicinal side effects.
The allergist picked this up from a researcher who noticed an ethnic
difference in sinus infections and complications of such. Those ethnic
groups which use cayenne or other "hot" peppers in their cooking on a
regular basis don't seem to have the same kind of chronic sinus problems
as those who don't use these condiments/food sources. It is his first
line of defense for a whole segment of the population who need to avoid
poly-pharmacy mixes that may react.
