Barb,
This is a tough call...whether to use up the pumped milk soon or to "spread
it out" so to speak. I think you have to look at what is the minimum amount
of mom's milk that will provide an antibody boost for the baby and I have
no idea what that is.

I have worked with moms who have done this prolonged pumping for a baby
that is never going to nurse and it is sooo hard for them! I am sure this
baby is in and out of the hospital alot and mom is absolutely stressed out
not to mention depressed. There is a lot of grief going on in cases like
this.

Are you hearing signs of depression in her voice? Her willingness to give
up on something so vital to her baby might be a red flag for that. She may
need to see someone for that.

I would commend her for going as long as she has and try to address the
emotional issues that are leading her to give up.
