I am hearing alot of this too Linda. There is a myth out there...and I
think some professionals support it because they don't want to deal with
these attempts at natural childbirth. I angers me. I recently heard that
the wonderful natural birthing suite in your area (Dayton) is rarely
used...moms think if they use it they won't be able to have drugs....even
if they need them

Somebody is doing some serious undermining out there!!!!

By the way...Suzanne Arms at the New york Open Center this
weekend...incredible. She has a new video out. We are going to premeire it
in our area next month at a doula tea. She says...there are four things a
baby needs for optimum brain development: To gaze into his mother's eyes,
to be held skin to skin, to hear his mother's heart beat and to be fed at
her breast!!!!

The standard for birth in the video is Home Birth.

This belongs in the "now I've heard everything" category:
A pregnant mom called today to ask about pumps (she's planning to return to
college afterward). After THAT discussion, I said "One of the best ways to
get breastfeeding off to a good start by NOT having an epidural in labor."
Dead silence.
"But what if I need a Cesarean?"
The bottom line: she thought that if she told her doctor she wanted to
avoid
drugs in labor, her decision would be carved in stone (irreversible) and
she
would NOT be able to get pain medication if necessary when actually in
lablr! She insists that the instructor in her childbirth class told her
this. Perhaps - or maybe she didn't hear/understand the full story.
