Be still my beating heart - I've just written my first Letter to the
Editor! It was to applaud Katie Granju's excellent article in Salon but
is a little too long to post here. So nice to have a place like Lactnet
to learn about so many things!

While I'm briefly out of lurkdom, thought some of you might be
interested in this exerpt from a book I've just read:
". . . our galaxy, from the Greek GALA, "mother's milk" -- reflects the
belief, predating the Olympian deities, that the Milky Way came from the
breasts of the Great Goddess as Queen of Heaven. This then became part
of Hera's mythology: when milk spurted from her breasts, the Milky Way
was formed. The drops that fell to the ground became lilies . . ." (p.
39).
From: Jean Shinoda Boden (1984) The Goddess in everywoman: A new
psychology of women.

Enjoy those fleeting summer nights!
