Funny, many of us are lucky some of these situations did not arise with
our first babies. My first was easy, painless bf experience. My second
was horrible sore, scabbe, bleeding nipples for at least 6 wks. Forceps
assisted births for both, carpal tunnel syndrome to the extreme with the
second, very difficult to hold and position. Also a labor induction. How
could we NOT have problems? Baby very sleepy, having seizure-like
movements, workup negative. I was an LC too, had another LC visit several
times to help, latch seems fine, etc. Wt. gain fabulous, but felt like
she was biting often. Later at a toddler dental visit, the dentist notes
that she has very tight labial frenulum, which may cause problems in
future (separating front teeth). I remembered then how I would sometimes
have to roll her upper lip out with a cotton-tipped applicator (Q-tip).
Multifactorial???? This is an understatement! However, we are still
nursing at 42 months - wow that sounds long when you say it like that!
