Dear Katherine, have been thinking about this since last night - a lot.
Your answer was very good. I think what HCPs forget is that mom has access
to so much info that moms didn't use to have and good or bad, it makes pts
ask questions. HCPs don't particularily like to be questioned after
they've made a treatment decision! There are articles and letters in HCP
journals nowdays about how to handle the info pts come into the office with
off of the internet. And let's be real frank, HCPs feel threatened,
especially if the mom's info is better or more current than theirs! And
another side of the problem is that BF is treated so casually by HCPs and I
think they are startled when mom says no way - what else can I do, I won't
wean. Years ago "good" pts did not assert themselves at all. Things are
changing in many areas and in many ways and we all have to adjust and
adapt, including HCPs. Sincerely, Pat, an HCP, in SNJ
