A client has just called me and related that she had a severe reaction to
an unknown substance (suspecting a food) that ultimately landed her in
the hospital for 3 days. She is now out and at home, but on a liquid diet
along with medications. Her potpourri includes: ranitidine 150mg twice
a day, Benadryl as needed (she takes at nighttime), cephalexin 500mg 4X
day, prednisone 40 mg once daily, metronidazole 500mg twice a day, and
iron supplements. For the most part, she would be able to breastfeed on
one of any of these; however, having such a combination and with some
high dosages along with eating no solids, does it indeed seem prudent
then for her to pump and dump until she is taken off these meds (about 7
days)? Just wanted to double-check.

TIA,
Lisa Marasco, BA, IBCLC
